Aliens, the Bible and Enoch—Oh my! Part Deux.

Strictly from our traditional Bible there’s no way of learning much more about the incident in Genesis than what we have here, a cryptic note about, more than likely, fallen angels getting their game on with some hotties. But, there is another source we can look to for answers. The complete story is found in The Book of Enoch

Who is Enoch? Back up in Genesis by a chapter and we’ll find a guy so close to God that God took him to heaven early without dying. The next time we see mention of him the author of Hebrews mentions that he was caught up to heaven by faith (Hebrews 11:5). Then we see that the author of Jude quotes Enoch (Jude 1:14 - 15)! How could the author of Jude quote Enoch? Because the book of Enoch was consider scripture to the early church. Some scholars also believe that Jesus quoted Enoch in Matthew 22:29-30 when he spoke about angels not giving and taking in marriage. What I find interesting is that Jesus says, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.” What other scripture, in our current Bible, is there anything to do about angels and marriage? None that I can find.

So what does Enoch have to say about Genesis 6? It’s one of the scariest and in-depth look at angels I’ve ever read. And if it is accurate it opens the doors to a world that even Frank Peretti would have a hard time comprehending.

Apparently, some of the fallen angels, led by one named Semjaza, do take women and have children with them. Then as God prepares to punish them, they go to Enoch, knowing that Enoch has the ear of the Lord, to ask him to beseech the Lord on their behalf. Can you imagine a demon coming to you for help? Weird!

So, of course, that doesn’t fly. The Semjaza is punished to be imprisoned under a large stone for 10,000 years. Odd isn’t it? And this is where I back peddle to the alien bit. How long has passed from this story? How old are the earliest stories in the Bible? 6,000 - 15,000 years old is about the agreed timeframe. Maybe, just 10,000 years. Maybe Semjaza has served his sentence and is back to his old tricks in the guise of extra-terrestrial life?

Far fetched? Probably. But hey, I didn’t call this blog Theoddity for nothing.

The book of Enoch is mostly Jewish mysticism that is more akin to gnostic writings then anything canonical.

I’ve heard it preached before that the Nephilim were fallen angels, but that really doesn’t square with scripture as a correct interpretation, though you wouldn’t be alone in that thought. Angels are never referred to as “sons” (of god - Nephilim). That title has been reserved for man. It is more commonly interpreted that the Nephilim were a race of men, from the descendants of Cain, who were giant in stature.

While the book of Enoch may contain some elements of truth (even an autobiography by Bill Clinton can lay claim to that), and even be quoted, it does not mean that the book in its entirety is true and accurate. If it was, God in His sovereignty would have preserved it in the canon. I will, however, agree that anything from the book of Enoch that is quoted in God’s Word must be true.

I can’t say I’m following you on the alien bit - too much culture being tied into scripture for my taste.

Thanks for the comments, Jeremy. I’m afraid I’ll have to disagree on some points here. Lucifer and the angels are referred to as the Sons of God in the beginning of Job. So the Nephilim are not a type of angel but born of women who were impregnated by angels. I think we can all agree that only fallen angels would think to conceive a child or have sexual intercourse (however that’s done) with a human.

Also, the book of Enoch was widely read by the early church who were closest in time and preaching of Jesus then disregarded by the catholic church. It was lost by the time King James created his version of the Bible widely used today. I find it odd however that the beginning of he book of Secrets of Enoch he mentions that this book should be closed and not opened because it is meant for a generation yet to come. Strange indeed.

As for the alien bit, I find it odd that we have all these stories of old, even in Greek mythology, about gods having children with humans. Even in Genesis. Then, apparently, according to the book of Enoch, there is an end put to it. And all history is wiped of this kind of mythology for thousands of years (perhaps 10,000 years) only for similar instances to start popping up in our modern culture as alien abductions. Are aliens extra-terrestrials or are aliens a rouse by fallen angels pressing themselves into our world for sexual sport? That’s where I’m headed.

And yes, there’s a lot of culture wrapped up in this but hey, it’s fun to study the oddities. Believing them, well, that’s another story…

The problem with society today is that we are engulfed in tradition. Tradition has taught us about the past and church tradition has has told us what the writings of the patriarchs meant. We need to look at scripture for what it is and not what an “expert” has to say about it.

I believe we have a gross misconception of what an angel really is and what it means to come from Heaven or a “heavenly” place. We have to take in account the fact that we are dealing with real people from an ancient time that had no comprehension of aircraft, space travel or any of the like. If we were to take the same situations they experienced then and placed them in the time frame of today what would that look like?

I would encourage doing a search on youtube for David Flynn. He has a lot to say about this.

Let’s remember… Satan is the god of this world and has control of our society. Do you think he wants us to know the truth about who he really is or how he is manipulating society? of course not.

very good article dude, thanks :-)
